Polymers’ main role lies in Process Packaging with different types of Polymers being used in Food Packaging now. FSSAI has laid down tailor-made Packaging Regulations in recognition of its Impact on Food Safety.
The Quality of all materials used to Package, Prepare, Store, Wrap, Transport, Sell, or Serve Food that comes in direct contact or is likely to come in contact with Food needs to be Food-grade. Packaging materials must be suitable for the Product Type, Storage Conditions, Filling, and Sealing, and be compatible with Packaging Equipment as well as the conditions of Transport.
Packaging materials need to be able to withstand Mechanical, Chemical, or Thermal Stresses experienced during normal Transportation. In the case of Flexible or Semi-Rigid Containers, Overwrap Packaging may be required. Food Products have to be packed in Clean, Hygienic, and Tamper-proof Packages or Containers. The Sealing materials, Containers, and Closure Systems must be compatible with the Packaged Product. Additionally, Printing Ink used printing on the Packaging Surface must conform to IS: 15495 and must not come into direct contact with the Food inside.
EFRAC offers Laboratory tests, Assessments, and Evaluations of all types of Food-contact Packaging Materials as per Indian, FSSAI, ISO, EU, and ASTM Requirements. .
