ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS

Asugar substitute is a food additive that provides sugar like sweetness while affording significantly less calories. Some sugar substitutes may be natural or synthetic. In the United States, six high – intensity sugar substitutes have been approved for use: Aspartame, Sucralose, Neotame, Acesulfame potassium (Ace-K), Saccharin and Advantame. Food additives must be approved by the FDA and sweeteners must be proven as safe post submission of a GRAS document regarding safety of use by the manufacturer. FDA provides guidance for manufacturers and consumers about the daily limits for consuming high-intensity sweeteners, a measure called Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI). Sugar substitutes are used instead of sugar for a number of reasons, including: Dental care, Diabetes mellitus, hypoglycemia, Cost and shelf life.

[Artificial sweeteners, whether natural or synthetic, are non-nutritive food additives that provide sugar-like sweetness while affording nil or significantly fewer calories. Reasons for their use include prevalence of Diabetes mellitus, as a deterrent against Dental issues,  Hypoglycaemia,  and enhanced shelf life.
