Coal is a fossil fuel that is formed from the accumulation of dead plant matter in swamps and peat bogs which is converted into different forms like Lignite, Sub-Bituminous, Bituminous, and Anthracite, through biological and geological processes over a period of time. It has many important uses worldwide like electricity generation, steel production to household cooking purposes.
Different types of coal have different uses. Steam coal, also known as Thermal Coal, is mainly used in power generation. Coking coal, also known as metallurgical coal, is mainly used in steel production. Gradation is very important for the specific use of coal. The gradations of coal are done on the basis of its Calorific Value, Ash Content, and Moisture Percent.
It is therefore essential to determine the grade of the coal with respect to the quality aspects prior to sell or purchase or use.
