Quality Tolerance for Water for Storage Batteries

Water is the essential component of the storage batteries as the Quality of Water determines how the batteries will work. The majority of the Storage Batteries or Lead Acid Batteries consists of lead plates immersed in a pool of Electrolytes and while recharging the storage batteries, electricity flows through the water portion of the Electrolytes. Any Water Quality Issues can hamper the working functionally of the Storage Batteries. Generally, Distilled Water, Deionized Water, and Reverse Osmosis Water are used for Storage Batteries. The utilization of Ordinary Tap Water can cause overworking of the battery because the minerals present in the tap water can fill the pores and coat the plates which block the water contact. The IS 1069 sets out the regulations for Quality Tolerance of Water for maintaining the Appropriate Standarity of Water for Storage Batteries (Lead-Acid Batteries).

[Lead Acid Battery is the most commonly used storage battery. Its performance depends to a large extent on the Quality of Distilled & Deionized Water in the Electrolyte Mix (Water: Conc. Sulphuric Acid :: 65:35). Electricity, flows through the porous Lead Alloy Anodes &  Cathodes and the Electrolyte Mix during the Charging & Discharging cycles with the polarities reversed.  Application of ordinary Tap Water in the Mix can cause minerals to leach from the water and coat the Electrodes with deposits, clogging the pores, and causing the battery to overwork on account of reduced contact between the electrolyte with the electrodes. IS 1069 specifies the Quality Tolerance Standards of Water for Lead-Acid Storage Batteries for its proper maintenance.]

Edward Food Research & Analysis Centre Ltd (EFRAC) is a NABL Accredited Testing lab [Laboratory] with ISO/IEC 17025 Certification and offers Quality Tolerance of Water for Storage Batteries. In EFRAC, the [EFRAC’s] Highly Experienced Researchers have been following [complying with] Regulations IS 1069 for testing the Water Quality of Storage Batteries.
