    Food for Thought

**Malnutrition Free India: Posted On: 15 DEC 2021, 2:34 PM by PIB, G.O.I, Delhi.

Research is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought’:  Albert Szent-Györgyi, Hungarian Biochemist & Nobel Prize (Medicine) Awardee,1937.

Well, the Data above did make us think & become restless! But not for long. “Why not fortify the hands of our fellow professionals in FSSAI by exchanging our experiential knowledge in Food- Chemistry, Biology & Analysis?” is what we thought.
The series of ongoing illuminative Training Programs focused on various facets of Food Analysis is an attempt in that direction. The fourth in this series titled “Sensitization of Method Verification for Rice Fortificant Testing” was organized at our Barasat Laboratory from 8th to 9th August 2022.

The fact that Indians are the 2nd largest Rice Consuming Population, worldwide, speaks volumes about the importance of this initiative.

Sensitization of Method Verification for Rice Fortificant Testing from 28 July to 29 July 2022

The 3rd in the series of EFRAC- FSSAI collaborated Experiential Training Initiative was organized at EFRAC’s FSSAI notified National Reference Laboratory (NRL) located at Barasat from 28th July to 29th July 2022.

The interactive Program titled “Sensitization of Method Verification for Rice Fortificant Testing” witnessed keen involvement by FSSAI Staff participants in the various aspects of Methods, Techniques & Technologies involved.

EFRACs Subject Matter Specialists, comprising of Scientists & Technologists with veritable Practical Expertise, shared learning gained from years of practice.

Sensitization of Method Verification for Rice Fortificant Testing from 21 July to 22 July 2022

Continuing in its vein of being a Responsible Corporate Entity, EFRAC has been going all out to supplement the G.O.I. & FSSAI’s efforts in ensuring availability of Fortified Rice to economically weak and malnutrient women and children, countrywide.
EFRAC is strengthening FSSAI’s hands through a series of 2-day hands-on Training Programs for its personnel at EFRAC’s NRL Notified Laboratory, Barasat, with the latest being organized on 21 & 22 July 2022.
The experiential Program titled “Sensitization of Method Verification” involved the use of “Modern & Automated Laboratory Equipment” in Rice Fortificant Testing.
The knowledge gained herein will surely go a long way in ensuring the attainment of the tasks allotted to them.

Sensitization of Method Verification for Rice Fortificant Testing from 14 July to 15 July 2022

The faculty consisted of EFRACs Scientists & Technologists having sound theoretical and Practical Expertise in the Subject Matter.
Both of these application-based programs provided the participants from FSSAI across India the opportunity to ruminate, discuss, and query various facets of Methods, Food Testing Techniques; Technologies such as LC-MS ; ICP –MS involved in and presented during the program.

Hands-on Training on Analysis of Pesticide Residues in Cereals / Fruits & Vegetables

A 3-day experiential training program on Food Pesticide Residues for FSSAI, Kolkata Staff was organized at our Laboratory Complex from 5th to 7th May 2022.
12 FSSAI personnel were trained on the application of GC-MS/MS in the identification & quantification of various pesticide residues in 3 basic and widely consumed food groups- Cereals, Vegetables & Fruits. Critical topics included its Functions, Column Installation & sample preparation. Participants appreciated the interactive, practical & applicative nature of the program.
